LAURE CHAN

Cultural Collision in Progress

What if a violin could trace the Silk Road? Laure Chan weaves traditions from East and West in a programme that blends Indian and Arabic commissions with Corigliano’s Red Violin Caprices, Perkinson’s blues, and her own Bach/Ysaÿe-inspired piece. A work-in-progress rooted in dialogue, curiosity, and musical exchange.

Laure Chan, Creative Project Development Resident at the Verbier Festival Academy, invites you on a cross-cultural journey where East meets West. She weaves together commissioned works by Arabic and Indian classical musicians Layth Sidiq and Kala Ramnath—rooted in the Silk Road—with John Corigliano’s The Red Violin Caprices, which imaginatively explores a variety of styles. The programme also includes Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s Louisiana Blues Strut, a playful nod to the blues, and Insanity, Chan’s own solo violin piece inspired by Bach and Ysaÿe. This work-in-progress celebrates musical dialogue, bridging genres and cultures in an evolving exploration where tradition and innovation intertwine.
