Michael Tilson Thomas - in Verbier

Michael Tilson Thomas’s presence at the 2016 Verbier Festival yielded three phenomenal performances. This release, which pays tribute to the revered American conductor, begins with one of his own compositions: ‘Street Song’ for Brass Quintet. This is followed by an inquisitive performance of John Cage’s ‘The Seasons,’ by the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra. Finally, in tribute to Tilson Thomas’s status as one of the great Mahlerian interpreters, the album concludes with a sublime account of the finale from the Third Symphony of Gustav Mahler.
