Choeur de Chambre de Namur
Often overshadowed by Scarlatti, Pergolesi, or even Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Rossini’s one remains one of the most powerful and moving works in the sacred music repertoire. Lush, dramatic, and emotionally rich, this masterpiece for four soloists, choir, and orchestra blends operatic intensity with deep spiritual reflection. Its Paris premiere in 1842 was a triumph, and Donizetti considered it one of the most beautiful works by the composer of The Barber of Seville.
This summer in Verbier, the work will be brought to life by two of today’s most celebrated opera stars: soprano Sonya Yoncheva and baritone Ludovic Tézier, both fixtures on the world’s leading stages—from La Scala and the Met to Vienna and Munich. They’ll be joined by British mezzo-soprano Alice Coote and South African tenor Sunnyboy Dladla, under the baton of Fabio Luisi, a conductor with a deep affinity for vocal music. With the VF Chamber Orchestra and the acclaimed Chœur de Chambre de Namur, this promises to be a deeply stirring performance. The concert opens with Haydn’s La Passione Symphony—an evocative start to an unforgettable evening.
