Louise Hopkins
cello
Louise Hopkins studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Raphael Wallfisch and Steven Isserlis, and further developed her artistry at the International Musicians’ Seminars in Prussia Cove with András Schiff, György Kurtág and Ralph Kirshbaum. She made her debut at London’s Barbican Hall in Lutosławski’s Cello Concerto under the composer’s baton, with The Times praising her “rare personality, agility and power”. A prize-winning cellist, she has since enjoyed an international career as a soloist and chamber musician, performing throughout Europe, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. She has appeared at leading festivals and collaborated with artists including Thomas Adès, Emmanuel Pahud, the Takács Quartet, Kathryn Stott and Steven Kovacevich. Alongside her performing career, Hopkins is a dedicated teacher. Appointed Professor at the Guildhall School at just 25, she became Head of Strings in 2011 and, since 2007, has also been Professor of Cello at the Hochschule der Künste Bern.
