PRESS RELEASE
20 March 2026 – Vevey (Switzerland) – The Verbier Festival unveils a new release on its VF Gold label, produced in collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon, bringing to light a remarkable live recording from the Festival’s 2018 archives. Christoph Eschenbach conducts Mahler: Symphony No. 4, joined by acclaimed soprano Ying Fang and the Verbier Festival Orchestra.
Mahler’s Fourth Symphony conjures a child’s vision of heaven, a world where innocence replaces gravity. A great contemplator of nature, Mahler believed that every work should contain a fragment of the infinite, and here that appears in a shorter form with reduced orchestral forces, marked by a child-like spirit. Under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, the Verbier Festival Orchestra leads us to Das himmlische Leben, the final movement, its points of origin and ultimate culmination of the symphony where Ying Fang’s crystal-clear voice lifts us toward celestial realms.
Christoph Eschenbach conducts Mahler 4 is available on March 20th, 2026 on Apple Music Classical and on all streaming platforms.
