Verbier Festival, in partnership with EPFL, unveils a free listening station at the Médiathèque Valais in Sion and Martigny.
Vevey, Switzerland, January 21, 2026 – The Verbier Festival announces the inauguration of its very first public listening station, located within the Médiathèque Valais in Sion and Martigny.
This installation allows the general public free access to a unique selection of audio, video, and photographic archives retracing more than thirty years of the Festival’s musical history.
This listening station is the outcome of a long-standing partnership between the Verbier Festival and the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and aims to showcase an exceptional cultural heritage made up of concert recordings, videos of rare performances, and archival photographs. Thanks to an intuitive interface, visitors can explore hundreds of digital items highlighting the emblematic artists of the Verbier Festival, as well as photographs by Christian Lutz, the Swiss photographer officially associated with the Festival’s 1994, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 editions.
“We are proud to make our collection accessible to everyone. The Verbier Festival has always sought to share music beyond the boundaries of the Festival, and this project perfectly embodies that commitment,”says Hervé Boissière, Co-CEO of the Verbier Festival.
“This listening station represents a first milestone in the scientific and technological preservation work carried out jointly and with passion by the teams of the Verbier Festival and EPFL. It offers unprecedented access to a major Swiss cultural heritage,” adds Alain Dufaux, Director of Operations and Development of EPFL’s Cultural Heritage & Conservation Platform.
The Médiathèque Valais is hosting the installation in its Sion and Martigny spaces, thereby affirming its role as a bridge between innovation, memory and culture. The installation is freely accessible during the opening hours of both sites.
Thanks to the valuable support of partners such as the Archives of the State of Valais, the Médiathèque Valais, and Memoriav, as well as the commitment of a dedicated team of Verbier Festival volunteers, a vast program of digitization, indexing and preservation can be carried out. Under the expertise of EPFL’s Cultural Heritage & Conservation Platform (CHC), the VF Collection benefits from high-quality processing that guarantees its long-term preservation.
