Described by The Observer as “the definition of virtuosity,” the Japanese pianist has inspired admiration worldwide since winning the Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009. Nobuyuki Tsujii is a singular artist who, from an early age, developed extraordinary musical hearing and memory to overcome his blindness. Already familiar with the Verbier Festival—where his 2022 recital resulted in an album released under the VF Gold label—he will this summer present, among other works, Grieg’s Lyric Pieces and two Chopin Nocturnes. On July 26, join the pianist for the dazzling Piano Quartet in G minor by Brahms.

Winner of the prestigious Chopin Competition, Bruce Liu was awarded the Opus Klassik prize for “Young Talent of the Year” in 2024. This summer, the pianist will perform alongside James Gaffigan in Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Bruce Liu will also present an ambitious recital on July 28, blending worlds and eras. From Liszt to Ligeti and including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel, Mompou, and Albéniz, the young artist will take you on a boundless musical journey. On July 29, don’t miss Schumann’s Piano Quintet, which he will perform alongside, among others, Augustin Dumay and Mischa Maisky.

Since his breakthrough at the Van Cliburn Competition, Yunchan Lim has captivated audiences around the world. At just 21 years old, he has become a major artist at the Festival, returning each summer with programmes alternating between recitals, chamber music, and concertos. This year, he will reunite with his mentor Minsoo Sohn for Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos, K. 365, conducted by Lahav Shani on July 26. On July 30, he will perform the monumental Piano Quintet by Nikolaï Medtner, alongside, among others, Daniel Lozakovich and Kian Soltani. Finally, as the highlight of his residency at Verbier, he will give his first recital at the Salle des Combins on July 31, with a programme featuring works by Scriabin and Schubert. For those who missed last summer’s miraculous Goldberg Variations, don’t miss the chance to hear him this year!
Minsoo Sohn

Among the highlights of his career, Minsoo Sohn has recorded the complete 32 Piano Sonatas by Beethoven, as well as the Diabelli Variations and the Bagatelles. He will reunite with his student Yunchan Lim on July 26 for Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos, K. 365, conducted by Lahav Shani. On July 29, an outstanding ensemble of chamber musicians will come together around the pianist for Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 2 and his Piano Quartet.

From an early age, the talent of pianist and composer Tsotne Zedginidze has attracted the attention of the international music world, including that of Daniel Barenboim and Alfred Brendel. At the 2026 Verbier Festival, the 17-year-old rising star will take center stage in Rencontres Inédites IV, with the world premiere of his Piano Quintet, which he will perform himself, alongside artists regularly involved in the series. He will also perform on July 29 for the celebrated “Trout” Quintet by Schubert.

Whether as a pianist, conductor, or composer, Mikhaïl Pletnev is recognized as one of the greatest artists of our time. On July 26, he will perform in a recital featuring Bach, Grieg, and Schumann, including Kreisleriana. A genius arranger, he will see his famous piano transcriptions of The Nutcracker performed by Nobuyuki Tsujii on July 23, before conducting Schumann’s Violin Concerto with Daniel Lozakovich in his own arrangement. On July 30, Mikhaïl Pletnev, regarded as one of the foremost Chopin interpreters of our era, will perform the irresistible Piano Concerto No. 2 under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda.
Sunwook Kim

One of the youngest winners of the prestigious Leeds International Competition, Sunwook Kim stands out for his remarkably structured playing, inherited notably from his mentor András Schiff. Renowned for his recording of the complete Violin Sonatas by Beethoven with Clara-Jumi Kang, he reunites on August 1 with his long-time partner for a programme devoted to Respighi, Weinberg, and Richard Strauss. On July 27, Sunwook Kim will perform in Mendelssohn’s Piano Sextet and in clarinet pieces by Bruch with Pierre Génisson.

Dmitry Shishkin has established himself as one of the most captivating pianists of his generation. A child prodigy, he gave his first recital at the age of three and performed with an orchestra by the age of six. This summer, he returns to Verbier to perform Schubert’s magnificent Wanderer-Fantasy, arranged for piano and orchestra by Mikhaïl Pletnev, which creates a captivating dialogue between the soloist and the orchestra.

András Schiff embodies a tradition of interpretation in which stylistic rigor is combined with profound musical reflection. A great heir of the Hungarian tradition, trained at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, Schiff has become one of the foremost interpreters of the classical and romantic repertoire. On July 28, he will reunite with another piano legend, Evgeny Kissin. From Mozart to Dvořák, with excerpts from the Slavonic Dances, through Schumann and his Bilder aus Osten, as well as Smetana’s Vlatva, these works—sometimes rarely performed in public—make this concert a highlight of the 2026 edition.
