A remarkable trio opens the evening, bringing together violinist Joshua Bell, cellist Steven Isserlis and pianist Richard Goode in Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1. After the interval, Brahms’s famous Piano Quintet is performed by a group of chamber musicians whose magnetic presence captures the true spirit of the Rencontres Inédites, with pianist Nikolaï Lugansky, violinists Marc Bouchkov and Stephen Waarts, violist Blythe Teh Engstroem and cellist Mischa Maisky.

Renowned artists gather on July 22 as Joshua Bell, Irène Duval, Blythe Teh Engstroem and Steven Isserlis perform Fauré’s final work, written after he had lost his hearing. The String Quartet in E minor, Op. 121 unfolds in a world of rare abstraction, foreshadowing the artistic revolutions of the 20th century. With his Piano Trio No. 2, Schubert composed one of his most unforgettable scores. The inner fire of Steven Isserlis, Joshua Bell, and pianist Mao Fujita is sure to carry this profoundly moving piece to new heights.

The exploration of the Russian-American composer Igor Raykhelson’s music (born 1961) continues, following the success of his Quartet in 2025. This year, pianist Julien Quentin joins violinists Marc Bouchkov and Paloma So, violist Blythe Teh Engstroem and cellist Bryan Cheng for the composer’s Piano Quintet No. 2. In the second half, the spotlight turns to Brahms’s flamboyant First Piano Quartet, performed by Nobuyuki Tsujii at the piano, Yamen Saadi on violin, Máté Szücs on viola and Kian Soltani on cello.

At only 16, Tsotne Zedginidze is already making a striking impression, his distinctive musical voice drawing listeners into a vivid, playful world that leaves no one unmoved. On July 27, his Piano Quintet receives its world premiere, performed by Marc Bouchkov and Lir Vaginsky on violin, violist Sara Ferrández, cellist Pablo Ferrández and the composer himself at the piano. Be sure not to miss clarinetist Pierre Génisson with Julien Quentin in Bernstein’s Clarinet Sonata, a piece that hints at ideas he would later develop in West Side Story. Also featured are mezzo-soprano Emma Jüngling, flutist Zofia Neugebauer, Pierre Génisson, and Sara Ferrández in Stravinsky’s Three Songs from William Shakespeare.
