Marc Bochud

From an early age, Marc Bochud studied the flute before taking up the clarinet and bassoon. In Fribourg, he studied at the Conservatory (voice, conducting, theoretical and general music studies) and at the University (musicology, history, and political economy). He also developed his experience as a choral singer, notably with the Ensemble Orlando Fribourg. Numerous courses and masterclasses allowed him to refine his skills in choral and orchestral conducting. As a singer and chorus master, Marc Bochud collaborates with the Opéra de Fribourg. He also takes part in many projects combining stage performance and the human voice. Conducting an opera by and for children, preparing choirs, and other such endeavors are all projects he is passionate about.

From 2000 to 2015, Marc Bochud led the Ensemble vocal DeMusica de Fribourg. In 2003, he took over the direction of the vocal group Ars Laeta de Lausanne and the Schola de Sion. Since 2008, he has taught music at the Collège du Sud in Bulle, and since 2015, he has directed the interdisciplinary choir at La Manufacture, University of Performing Arts of Western Switzerland in Lausanne. His repertoire as a choral conductor includes a wide range of a cappella works.

As an oratorio conductor, Marc Bochud has directed numerous works of Baroque music, such as the St John Passion, the Magnificat, and a large number of cantatas by J.S. Bach, André Campra’s Requiem, and various psalms and motets by Zelenka, Charpentier, Purcell, Hasse, and others. He also conducts masses by Mozart, works by Joseph Haydn (Die Schöpfung, the Nelson Mass, etc.), Cherubini (Requiem in C minor), Fauré (Requiem and various works), Mendelssohn, Franck, Kodály, Calmel, and more. For all these projects, he has had the opportunity to lead various ensembles and orchestras, such as the Orchestre de chambre de Lausanne, the Orchestre Capriccio Basel, the Orchestre de chambre fribourgeois, and the orchestra of the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne.

Marc Bochud is deeply interested in contemporary creation. His repertoire thus includes numerous premieres by composers such as Caroline Charrière, Michel Hostettler, Valentin Villard, Carl Rütti, Eugen Meier, Dominique Gesseney-Rappo, Pierre Chatton, and others.
