Biography

Cyrille Nanchen is a young Swiss choral conductor (Valais) currently based in Stockholm. Active on the international scene as a guest conductor or chorus master, he regularly collaborates with leading ensembles across Europe. Since 2025, he has been guest conductor of the professional vocal ensemble Musicatreize in Marseille, renowned for its world premieres and modern and contemporary repertoire.

Recent and upcoming engagements in 2026 and 2027 include tours and concerts with Cappella Amsterdam, the Vlaams Radiokoor, the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, DR KoncertKoret, the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, Gli Angeli Genève and Musicatreize (world premiere and recording). In 2027, he will also lead a workshop at the Europa Cantat festival in Liepaja (LT).

Choral conductor at the Verbier Festival since 2022, Cyrille Nanchen prepares the Oberwalliser Vokalensemble alongside Hansruedi Kaempfen and has collaborated with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Gianandrea Noseda, James Gaffigan, Lahav Shani and Andrea Battistoni.

In 2025, he won first prize at the Aegis Carminis International Competition (SI), as well as two special prizes. He was also a semi-finalist in the London competition (2024) and has received support from prestigious programmes and institutions, such as Forum Dirigieren (DE), the Académie Itinérante (FR), the Madeleine Dubuis Foundation (CH) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music (SE).

In previous seasons, Cyrille Nanchen was assistant to Klaas-Jan de Groot at the Essen Opera (Aalto-Theater, 2024) and assisted Daniel Reuss on several occasions with Cappella Amsterdam, notably for the critically acclaimed recording Late Stravinsky (2025).

Cyrille Nanchen studied choral conducting in Stockholm, Amsterdam and Zurich with Fredrik Malmberg, Daniel Reuss, Benjamin Goodson, Markus Utz and Beat Schäfer. He also furthered his training through numerous masterclasses and within academies organised in particular with the Swedish Radio Choir, the Royal Swedish Opera Chorus, the WDR Rundfunkchor, the Rundfunkchor Berlin, the Kammerchor Stuttgart and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
