Biography

Melaine Dalibert is a French pianist and composer born in 1979.

Thoroughly trained at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, he is actively engaged as a performer of the music of our time (he is the dedicatee of works by Gérard Pesson, Giuliano d’Angiolini, Sébastien Roux, Michael-Vincent Waller…) as a soloist or within Ensemble 0. Since 2010, he has pursued a body of composition work essentially centred on his instrument, which interweaves the radicalism of algorithmic processes with a more intuitive approach, at a crossroads tinged with minimalism between learned and popular cultures.

He has pursued numerous transdisciplinary collaborations with visual artists Vera Molnàr, François Morellet, Jacques Perconte and Marcel Dinahet, and choreographers Olivia Granville, Dominique Jégou, Jérôme Bel and Aurélien Richard. His compositions are regularly performed and recorded by pianists such as Vanessa Wagner, Nicolas Horvath, Ivan Illic, François Mardirossian and Stéphane Ginsburgh. They are regularly broadcast on international radio (Radio France, BBC, RTBF, RAI, WSBC, NTS, KEXP…) and singled out by critics (The Guardian, The New-Yorker, The Wire, Dusted Magazine, Benzine Magazine, Gonzaï… his Musique pour le lever du jour was ranked among France Musique’s 100 best albums of 2018). In 2025, he stood out for his fiery rendition of Keith Jarret’s celebrated Köln Concert, which he has since performed in numerous venues and festivals. He has recorded several albums of his music on the labels Another Timbre (UK), Elsewhere Music (USA), 7K ! (D), FLAU (JP) and Sub Rosa (BG). In 2025, he released with David Sylvian the album Vermilion Hours on the label Ici, d’ailleurs (FR). Radio France’s Signature label commissioned two albums from him: After Us and Evening Resonance, released in 2024 & 2026.

In recent years, he has performed at: festival Musica (Strasbourg), festival Long Play – Bang on a Can (New York), festival Piano aux Jacobins (Toulouse), festival Musique Action (Nancy-Vandoeuvre), festival Ravel (Basque Country), Les Transmusicales de Rennes, Nancy Jazz Pulsations, festival Soeurs Jumelles (Rochefort), festival Métamusiques (Cognac), festival Musique(s) Rive Gauche (Paris), festival Nouvelle(s) Scène(s) de Niort, festival La Route du Rock hiver (Rennes), festival Variations (Nantes), festival Pianoctanbule (Le Mans), Studio 106 (Radio France, Paris), festival Ars Musica (Brussels), festival Baignade Interdite (Rivières), Tabakalera (Donostia), festival Autres Mesures (Rennes), Café Oto (London), Spectrum (New York), Contemporaries Music Series (Newport), festival FRYM/SID (Malmö), Cité Musicale de Metz, Palais des Congrès (Nantes), Théâtre du Châtelet (Paris), La Soufflerie (Rezé), Le Lieu Unique (Nantes), Opéra de Rennes, Opéra National de Lorraine, Opéra National de Lyon, Opéra de Nantes, Salle Malraux (Chambéry), Festival de la Cité (Lausanne), Fondation Pernod-Ricard, Plateforme 10 (Lausanne), L’Aéronef (Lille)…
