On January 24, 1975, pianist Keith Jarrett took the stage at the Cologne Opera House for a fully improvised concert. Captured by the legendary ECM label, that performance became one of the most iconic albums in jazz. More than fifty years later, Melaine Dalibert pays tribute to this landmark moment, transforming a spontaneous outpouring of sound into a true piece of repertoire.
Trained at the Conservatoire Supérieur in Paris, Melaine Dalibert first made his name through his work with Ensemble 0 and his solo albums released in the United States and Japan. His compositions, his play with resonance, and his experiments with algorithmic patterns have drawn comparisons to Ryuichi Sakamoto and Brian Eno. His exploration of the great piano repertoire — of which the Köln Concert is one cornerstone — is part of an artistic journey where virtuosity, minimalism, and a love of play intertwine.
