SASCHA MAISKY / MISCHA MAISKY / LILY MAISKY
One, two and three… Maisky! Since 2006, Mischa on cello, Sascha on violin and Lily on piano have performed together in public, but their bond with the Verbier Festival goes back to the very first edition in 1994 when the patriarch appeared on stage, returning faithfully every summer with his children growing up at his side. This afternoon, this wonderful trio of musicians presents works by Brahms that span the German composer’s entire creative life.

To speak of Mischa Maisky is in a sense to retrace the history of the Verbier Festival, so much is the great cellist part of its story. One never tires of his resolute entrances on stage, and of his proverbial ardour in throwing himself into the wildest ventures, never balking at the rarest scores, joining the most unusual instrumental groupings. But if there is one ensemble dear to the hearts of the Verbier audience, it is surely the unique trio he forms with Sascha on violin and Lily on piano, eminent musicians who feel at home in our resort. For the 2027 edition, the spotlight falls on Brahms, with the Trio No. 1, brimming with ideas, and the Trio No. 3 of overwhelming maturity. To see the Maiskys in concert is to savour a unique musical alchemy and a supremely expressive art of interpretation.
