Once upon a time there were three great musicians who loved playing together. All were soloists of international stature, travelling the world’s finest stages. Their musical rapport was so strong and their friendship so deep that they always found time to perform together in Verbier. For the first of the Rencontres Inédites, the spotlight falls on three of the brightest stars of our time, Janine Jansen, Gautier Capuçon and Evgeny Kissin, who come together in one of the jewels of this rare and fascinating formation: Beethoven’s trios. With these dazzling masterpieces, the German composer established himself as the equal of Mozart and Haydn as soon as he arrived in Vienna.

The Violin Concerto is a monument of Beethoven’s output. And when this musical Everest is played by the radiant bow of Augustin Hadelich, it promises a summit meeting extended by the youthful (and already fierce) Symphony No. 2 conducted by Lahav Shani.

We love, we adore, we revere Martha Argerich. The legendary Argentinian-born pianist closes the Festival with Prokofiev’s (highly) virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 3. At her side, Lahav Shani appears by turns as pianist and as conductor in the Russian composer’s Symphony No. 5 which also promises to be monumental.
