IN SYNC: HOW MUSIC CONNECTS US
An ideaLAB session on music, the body and shared emotions
What happens when we fall into sync? This interactive ideaLAB session explores how music connects us — through the brain, body and breath — blending live performance with insight.
Led by Dr Manuela Filippa — a researcher and musician whose work explores how sound and voice shape human connection from the earliest stages of life — and introduced by Carole Varone (Swiss Center for Affective Sciences, University of Geneva), the session brings together scientific perspective and live performance in a shared, reflective format.
Four short musical moments performed by the Fibonacci String Quartet from the Verbier Festival Academy are woven throughout, creating space to pause, listen and reconsider what we hear. Guided by the presenters, these moments draw attention to how timing, movement and attention influence our emotional and musical experience.
Moving between music and discussion, the session opens a window onto how connection is created — not only in sound, but between people. A Q&A concludes the session.
The session is led in French with simultaneous translation into English.
