BIRDS ON A WIRE
Rosemary Standley and Dom La Nena turn cover songs into spells: Monteverdi, Tom Waits, Barbara, The Cure — nothing resists their pared-down elegance.

Rosemary Standley, the Franco-American voice of the band Moriarty, and Dom La Nena, a cellist and singer born in Brazil, crossed their voices and a cello to give birth to Birds on a Wire — a nod to Leonard Cohen. The project was meant to be short-lived; the alchemy decided otherwise. From their acclaimed eponymous album in 2014 to Ramages, and on to their third opus Nuées Ardentes (2025), the duo has played more than two hundred concerts, from the Philharmonie de Paris to the Olympia, with collaborations as unexpected as the Britten Sinfonia orchestra or Philippe Jaroussky. Their playground: the cover song — or rather, its transfiguration. Rosemary Standley and Dom La Nena turn cover songs into spells: Monteverdi, Tom Waits, Barbara, The Cure — nothing resists their pared-down elegance. On stage, two voices and a cello are enough to make a baroque spirit hover over rock, chanson and world music, in a wandering, sober and refined chamber music. Enjoy the flight.
